At the moment a strong case can be made for that Me'shell Ndegeocello record . . . very futuristic sound, definitely original.

A record of endless pleasures. Every listen is different. It's a throw back to when I first heard Tagomago or something like that.

Keep a look out for Chocolate Genius as he has a similarly boundary free album in him I reckon though his records thus far have been more of a modern folk blues thing. Like a grumpy Terry Callier.

I imagine that she is not the only artist stereotyped as r&b or jazz who would like to stretch out into other areas. Of course you have to get out from under the corp umbrella to do that. Like poor old Lewis Taylor - forever snatching failure from the jaws of victory ....

Meant to be amazing live, a friend went and he was blown away!
The intensity of their rhythms is even greater, hopefully I'll get to see 'em sometime.

In no particular order- PG Six, 'Slightly Sorry,' Blonde Redhead, '23,' The Hold Steady, 'Boys and Girls in America,' The Horrors, 'Strange House,' Six Organs of Admittance, 'Shelter from the Ash,' Tinariwen, 'Iman Aman,' Holy Fuck, 'LP,' Electrelane, 'No Shouts No Calls,' The Warlocks, 'Heavy Deavy Skull Lover,' Wooden Shjips S/T, The Earlies, 'The Enemy Chorus,' The Fiery Furnaces, 'Widow City,' The Oscillation, 'Out of Phase,' ZzZ, 'The Sound of ZzZ' and Hamilton Yarns, 'Search for the Underwater Town.'

Honourable oldies mention for Copey, The Stooges, Siouxsie and Scott Walker.

Best gig probably Tinariwen or Roky Erickson. Or Circle. Or Devandra Banhart.

Dunno about reissues but I too have been enjoying the Moody Blues back catalogue this year- pay no more than a pound a piece from your local charity shop! And Harmonia Live 1974 is a gas, too.

"A Raining Sunshine of Light and Love for You & You & You." by Titan. Immense!

Love it madly!

Also dug "Tough Guys Don't Dance" by High Contrast, "Antichrist" Akercocke, "Healing Through Fire" Orange Goblin, "Death is This Communion" High on Fire, "Oblivion Bells" Underworld and lots of other thingies.
