Perhaps I am mistaken, and it would be interesting to know what got him on this line of thought initially. But I think Cope does genuinely care for British/English culture, whilst readily accepting this is a fluid entity shaped by long-term migration and amalgamation.

.... but the ready acceptance seems so sodding selective. You can't cherry pick. You can't circle the wagons and pick off the invaders you don't like the look of.

Migration is not a tribal issue. It is all about economics. The only reason to perpetuate a tribal society is to manage the scarity of resources through conquest and counter-conquest.

Feed, educate, house people and offer them reliable health care and safe water and see how radical and aggressively tribal they feel like being!

If Cope spoke a little bit more about what our economy does with and to migrant labour I'd be a lot more supportive. Instead we get this paranoia that somehow the liberal arts playhouse is going to be brought tumbling down by Islam and a job lot of Poles, Czechs and Ukranians.

..... and people wonder why the likes of Aki Narwaz are so outspoken.

But I'll wait and see if the record is more coherent than the Drudions.

I have no clue what the song is about but if it is the spirit of the confused and at times downright dangerous langauge of the Drudions then yeah I will have a problem.

All this thread is doing is bringing out a lot of concerns that people have had since Dark Orgasm about where his thinking on racial identity is headed.

It can't / wont / doesn't take anything away from his many works of genius but sometimes we have to query the maker rather than genuflect at their every utterance.

The minute you stop taking life case by case. person by person one falls straight into the trap laid by the fair right and some of what he says seems to go way beyond the case by case and person by person and headlong into the land of Private Eye, Dave Spart, Bufton Tufton and A Cabbie Writes

who did we elect our leaders then, have we got a government in this forum, i dont think its a democracy at all, we can say what ever we like, and say if we dont like it, we might be mostly self policing but thats not the same thing at being democratic.

I don't think Cope is 'picking off' any particular group of immigrants for special treatment. Seems to me that he mentions Eastern Europeans simply because there's a lot of them arriving recently, not because he doesn't like or want them (sure, he may dislike some of their religion but that seems a secondary issue, I don't think he would support banning entry on religious grounds)

Economics is indeed the reason behind most migration (as opposed to
asylum), and yes Cope is speaking from the viewpoint of a rock n roller. But his aim seems to be a peaceful integration of newcomers, and avoidence of trouble due to misunderstandings on both ends. In any case the freedoms and liberties enjoyed not just by artists but by all in this country are worth defending - from ourselves and our own government as well as newcomers.

but we have heard him talking about related subject matter before, in concert and via the Druidions. I suspect this is where peoples worries are based. Me? I'll reserve judgement until I hear the CD.

Sure sure and my argument is that the economic migrant is more sinned against than sinning.

I think we agree about that, but we disagree over whether Cope agrees!
Hopefully the record will set things a little straighter.
