Not self-evidently untrue, merely baffling and seemingly meaningless. Which puts it alongside most lyrics in popular music.

A couple of months back I had quite a thing for The Lexicon Of Love. I'm sure they knew that a lot of their lyrics were actually nonsense, but that pseudo-profound thing against the 80s epic production makes it work.

They were ironists, like the Pet Shop Boys or the KLF, they knew that pop was too contrived to be totally sincere, yet they still manage to say something within such a facsimilic medium. All Of My Heart ranks alongside the greatest of pop songs.

Incidentally, a workmate of my brother's recently went to Nick Beggs' wedding, and Martin Fry was among the guests. He's still got that haircut, apparently.

If he were coming to my wedding I'd put apple pie on the menu just so I could tell Martin to help himself to another piece.
