Are you a vegetarian?

Up until very recently, people living in far northern climes didn't have the option of such a diet (and economically, they still don't... imagine having to fly in all your food to satisfy a moral argument). In the winter there is literally no vegetation. Would you argue that the Inuit should starve because we down here in our balmy regions disapprove of whaling? In their case, it's subsistence, not preference, and they use literally every part of the animal.

The Tibetans eat a lot of meat, because they too live where there is very, very little vegetation that humans can digest. And they don't have a reputation as being 'cruel'.

That is entirely different from a moral point of view. The Chinese, Japanese and Norwegians live in a fertile arable environment. The Innuit hunted sustainably out of necessity, and not to the point of extinction. They, like the native Americans and the Aborigines repect the balance of nature. It is not wanton unnecessary slaughter for reasons of the palate.

Yes, we do. And the fact we see celebs like Whittingstall (over here, a famous tv proponent of organic farming - ie he's got a really, really nice cottage + his own land) send x amount of volts through a chicken's skull (as he's demonstrated) in order to kill it 'the humane way' don't make no difference to the chicken. It still flapped about like it was terrified, coz it was. We either take that on board or we don't. There may be more chickens out there, but I don't think that's always where the sentiment lies, so I agree with much of what you say there.

EDIT: Infact I had some Algerian friends a while back when I lived in England, and although they readily ate horse, something I find a bit alien (even though eating deer ain't at all) they balked at the thought of eating rabbit (as I said I had) coz it reminded them of 'cats'!

Hmmm. Children in Need is a load of shite telly, yes. Celebs get smugged out, the kookiness is almost hernia enducing, but if it's the one way some disabled kids can keep their day centres opened etc then I say 'fuck the whales' to be honest.

If we want to stop this type of shite telly, then we must get back to taking care of each other properly, looking after those that need it and once we've prioritised get on with other things. We'll be in a much better place to do so.

Sorry, just read some thing 'real' about one child's account of life in a Catholic Church run Industrual School and his subsequent traumas. Kinda rattled me a bit.

Whatever you thing of Whittingstall, he uses every part of the animal, no waste, that he has raised organically and humanely. He doesn't throw the live animal, minus fins, back into the sea as with sharks, some species seriously endangered, because some fucker likes them in his soup. I'm sorry, but there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever.

Anyway, as always, Peace and Love. :-).

I'm with the Whales and all the other non-human sentient beings on this one . No animal has ever intentionally done me a bad turn.
Let's face it, if your last activity in your present incarnation is to be shat out of a Lion's arse on some lonely plain, you can take comfort in the fact that it really was nothing personal.

Has a child? If you don't care much for them fair enough. I do get a bit disturbed by the 'animals over humans' thing though. I actually find it a wee bit sinister.

That besides, facts are that in order to make the world a better place for all the sentient beings out there, we have to at least try to make 'decent human beings' first.

That means less people. Less children. Even the Dalai Llama got into trouble for pointing out that obvious fact. I have no dislike of humanity, but I am sick to death of media/corporate/political bullshit re. the lucrative gains of continually spinning 'the family'. It's a great vote catcher/money spinner when we should be dealing with the facts., and why when I go out for a meal etc. do I have to put up with little Conrad or Tarquin 'expressing' himself by running amok around my table at my expense? Complain, which I do on principal, and the selfish response of the me-first New labour modern family brigade is astounding. I live here too. :-).
