Along with solar and wind supplementing demand, treating power distribution networks as two-way systems could increase the efficiency of how electricity is routed.
There's going to be a big market in maximizing what does arrive to our dwellings, and perhaps soon some progress towards a less 'lossy' means of delivery- too much of what's generated evaporates into heat before it can make it to our fuse box.
Ironic that one facet of the solution to our machine age problems lies in building more machines- smarter ones, anyway.
