I can't think of anything Japanese that I do buy to be honest, not regularly anyway. I'm sure as a nation we do though so yeah, economic sanctions are a definite consideration, although I'm more inclined to go out looking for whale hunters with a large harpoon of me own...

Just read
Mind Of The Dolphin
by John Lilly
not so long ago

so have to add

it's OK to kill 670
of our superiors,
peaceful beings with very large brains,
every year,
depending on what country you live in,
to the point where they're going to die off entirely?

Not much to our credit, Man

Here in Norway some politicians have used the argument of "National Sovereignity". Two magical words they believe help them escape reality!

Yeah, it's a cultural thing so we can't criticise.

A friend of mine got that for challengin an Afro-Caribbean man's sexism. I've also heard it used to defend female genital mutilation in East Africa.

I was brought up in the UK, traditionally racist, sexist, homophobic and imperialist. Can I criticise those traits of my culture, or would it be being racist against myself?

There are people who are doing it!

not quite with harpoons, but with boats that ram the whalers.

Sea Shepherd was formed by original Greenpeacers who felt that GP was a bit soft. Sea Shepherd go and do direct action in defence of whales. They're out there now trying to find the Japanese boats.

Last time the whalers were too fast so Sea Shepherd have bought a new faster boat, fuitted it with water cannons to stop the whalers boarding!

you can find out more - and donate money - at their site

I had a Norwegian woman tell me, in all seriousness, whaling was essential because otherwise the whales eat too many of the fish.

Whaling over?

Wow, looks like the Japanese ship's out of action!

(I love the way Sea Shepherd call the Japanese ship 'the death star of whale kind'!)

yeah, that's good, but they're cutting both ways - the Japanese government has asked the UK to withdraw registration from Sea Shepherd's boat, which will make it an illegal and essentially pirate vessel, and we're fucking doing it!
