One has to keep in mind that anything like that is a good 'deconditioning agent'. Of course, the best of these are psychedelics, but anything that massively decompresses stress and backs off the nature of all of the symbols, warnings, etc that make up present-day society could be considered to be such. Even a giggly little sodapop of a drug like cannabis is a threat if you're working on a great deal of social programming, particularly by using fear and stress to get your agenda accomplished.

And no, alcohol doesn't really count as a 'deconditioning agent'. Yes, it can help you unwind. But because it's a weird depressant-type chemical, it can also make you feel even more down. And we won't go into the amount of booze-inspired punch-ups that happen, shall we? Weed, on the other hand, almost never inspires such behavior.

Everything being pushed over here in the USA comes with a message of DIRE PANIC attached these days. Iraq? "MUSHROOM CLOUD!" Social Security benefits? "CRISIS!" And so on. If something were to break this Pavlovian sequence of panic response -> accession to demands, suddenly it would be hard to convince people of the logic of sending poor and lower-middle-class people off to be bullet-stoppers and bomb-shields for Halliburton and Bechtel. And that would be bad for business. Can't have that. So, yes, DANGEROUS KILLER MARIJUANA MUST BE STOPPED, etc etc.

Yes, it may seem as if one can blame everything these days on the nasty-ass politics of the present-day...but the fact is, you can. Easily. Too easily...ergo, there's got to be something to it.
