Yup, I'd echo a number of your sentiments. As I've re-iterated, I really don't have a problem with the concept of ID cards per se but it's the execution of the issue that troubles me. As you rightly say, though, it could be the beginning of ordinary people wising up to their rights and exercising them.

Lawrence is right - yes, the whole thing is an unworkable shambles, but that doesn't mean they're not going to do it.
Brown has already put in the central part - creating a central, multi-agency, database of everyone in the country. The card just sits on top of that.
