Here here. I just cleared my wallet out and a new card would fit in just nicely. ;-p

As if a pizza company would give a shit about your cholesterol! That's the really unlikely part of the story, obviously designed to rouse the 'freedom lovin' side of all the fucken burger-munchers! What a load of paranoid crap!

the old ID card business isn't as bouyant as it may seem - unbeknown to you all (well, most), I had a secret life as one of the country's few eGovernment smart-card programmers - yes, I was an evil oily rag who actually made the id cards, got them to work with databases, school dinners, all that due to them being incredibly expensive, complicated and relatively useless, just about no-one wants them, apart from local government with massive grants to burn so, should I spill the beans, or take the secrets to my grave .... the scheme is also designed to help stop terrorists and organised crime groups using false and multiple identities. foreign nationals need the cards only if they are coming to the UK for longer than three months.

eeek - accidentally posted the above whilst pasting in bits from the BBC site about the ins and outs of the thing. As we guessed, there's a lot about it 'preventing terrorism'; 'the scheme is also designed to help stop terrorists and organised crime groups using false and multiple identities' hmm yeah, cos at the moment no terrorist is able to get multiple false passports are they? And Spain's ID cards sure protect them from terorists don't they? And if your terrorist isn't British they're off the hook anyway; ' foreign nationals need the cards only if they are coming to the UK for longer than three months' Q&A: Identity cards http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3127696.stm other thingy about it http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3655497.stm

all the 9/11 lads had valid ID's ... come on, does no-one want to hear all my shocking tales from the front line of ID card production, now that I'm out of the biz ...

Yes please. One point, if Abu Hamza is supposedly one of the most dangerous and seditious people in this country today, how do fingerprints and retinal scans save us from him?

This morning on radio 4 they said that you would not be required to have the card on you at all times. After all that would be like a totalitarian state and 'no one wants that'. Don't make me laugh. So if we dont even have to have the damn things on us, what IS the point supposed to be? AND another thing, the idea is to sneak them into everyday life, because if you get a new passport you will have to have one. So no foreign holidays unless you toe the line mate. They expect 80% of the population to have one this crafty way before the next 10 years is up.
