Re: Rewriting history.
Feb 25, 2004, 23:03
What was hideous about Braveheart was the brutal rewriting of history. Numerous examples abound but my own personal favourite was the Lillian Gish take on the Mel/French bird love thang. In reality the "princess" was around 6 years old when Wallace pegged it, so get it round ye Mel ya dobber.
What galled me in particular was the universal acclaim that greeted this piece of pish. It was sad to see/hear so many Scots kids believing that it was historically accurate.
As far politically subversive, for me Gibbo has always had an anti-Calvinist, anti-English sensibility (as evidenced by Badgerheart and, worse still, The Patriot). Mind you, he is well-balanced as he has a chip on both shoulders.
