The Elgin Marbles situation is shocking, particularly as the building they were torn from is actually still standing, and has a small museum right next to it which could easily and conveniently accommodate them. They're a glaring ommission when you visit the Acropolis, and make you realise what an act of cultural vandalism has been committed.

A lot of this boils down to not trusting Johnny Foreigner to look after their own cultural heritage.

I wanted to enrol as a member of the Royal Institute of Pennants. They said I couldn't enrol, because you have to ensign instead.

Well, considering the state of the Bagdhad museum even b4 the war, sometimes they have a point. And Cairo could do with a lot more money before it is up to current conservation standards. So lets help them out, do up the museum, and then loan them anything they like. Especially all the stuff we tomb-raided...
