Are you waiting for someone to chip in with something? Are you fishing around for a response?

A pun I think. I thought I'd wait until we discussed the matter a bit longer first before making light of it...for once!!
IF the stone was removed from the WHS that is serious stuff IF it has a direct connection with the WKA.

That looks every bit an Avenue stone doesn't it...and a female one to boot! From the Sanctuary end possibly?

I don't go with this whole male/female thing, as far as my memory recalls there's only one pair that could be said to live up to the title in the WKA, and none elsewhere in the Avebury complex that are convincing.

I didn't say it was part of a pair Geoff just that it looked like what many class as a representative of the female form. But, there are two pairs in the WKA and lots of other 'female' types around the complex. Whether they are paired or not is another thing because many are missing.

I know Roy, just this whole Male/Female thing does my nut in, there's more chance of it being coincidence than intended, wouldn't you agree. ?
I don't believe any of the "great" antiquarians mentioned it, and surely they wouldn't have missed something so obvious.

Roy, have read this thread with interest and was going to made the same point as you. If the stone was taken from within the boundaries of the World Heritage Site then surely English Heritage/National Trust are obliged to sue these people for its return. From the description of its original location its sounds as though it may well belong to the WHS.

To be honest I'm not sure Geoff. I'm not really sure who mentioned it first either but just about everyone else does now. I have no doubt that there are 'certain types' of stones dotted around the complex but don't know if they are natural or not. We have our triangular stones here on Bodmin Moor that feature in the circles and they seem to be selected for their shape. Some are natural shapes but others have been purposely knapped into shape and are obvious. Mention has been made that maybe they are meant to represent the female form as well. I think if a stone has been purposely 'cut' to shape then it has an importance to it that we don't yet understand.

Well they don't seem to hide the fact June which surprised me somewhat I must say.

Yeah, it's almost become a mythical fact almost hasn't it, even though it doesn't actually hold up on the ground. just like the barber stone isn't it, adds a bit of romance for the good of the NT coffers. Really does my nut in.
