Nah, it's too big to move. Just build a museum around it!

I would find it tragic if it was closed as it has been a place of very powerful spiritual practise for me. To chant in there is a wonderful thing...

The trouble is you can see why people leave candles in there. Its the ignorance of those people that has to be addressed, as I really don't think they are trying to cause damage.

I'm ashamed to say I didn't remove the candles I found there when I took this photo in 2000:

I know beter now.

Leave a sign outside and an alter-like bench/platform in the end chamber. That, I think, would improve things.

I would hate to think they will go straight to closure.

It is only being considered at the moment.
Nothing is set in stone.
I would hope signs and a better management would stop it being closed and people would be educated to make better use of it.

Welcome to TMA Dr Nick,
The info is not on a website.
I heard that it was a point raised at the last AAHRG
meeting and I am just gathering opinions from people here.
What do you think?

Well hi to you Pete,

I'm also just going on what I've heard, and so was interested in where your information came from.....as it appears to be an unsubstantiated suggestion.

FYI although I know Dr Nick I am not them. I'm not a Dr, I only have a Diploma in Tourism Management, and am interested in the sustainable management of heritage sites.

I too am interested in ways WKLB could be managed, but might find other ways to phrase a question to garner opinions about its potential management.

Awe, I was so hoping you would introduce yourself with a
"Hallo Every Body!" type simpson's remark!
WKLB is not Owned by the NT but by the local farmer David Hues who Allows the NT to manage it.
Both he and the Trust are concerned about the ongoing damage and are trying to find a way of preserving it better.
Each quadrant of Avebury is going to be closed in turn over the next year to help the grass recover.
As a tour guide what would you suggest to make things better?
A tour guides charter maybe?
Could you help write one?
