I'm with you Fitter. I know he's a critical fave n' all but I can't get past his voice either.(though in the context of the Birthday Party I can handle it.)
A proper lead vocalist...that's lead as in pipe, pencil, plumbobs etc.
I saw him on some prog (Later?) and it was really horrible hearing him groan like a drunk with acute appendicitis. Sure in rock n roll being a 'proper' singer is hardly a pre-requisite and some of my fave vocalists are hardly technically proficient. But Cave's voice is a massive turn off to my lugs. As you say, what ever floats yer boat.
