It was Fall-covers and a cover of Victoria by The Kinks - which The Fall had recently covered at the time of the Peel Session. Terrible cover of Victoria, as I recall...

in the U.S. we had nothing like John Peel, sure there were local stations that may have promoted local and up and coming music but nothing comes close to the john peel show. My only experience with his show was import L.P.s that were sold in the states(and cost $$ at the time) things like tubeway army etc..

Peelie was a DJ in Dallas, Texas for a while. He even said he witnessed the assasination of JFK.

I really love some of the ISB/Robin Williamson seshs. I'll look through my collection to see if I can dig up a few more. The Amon Duul and Can ones were great. The Blue Orchids ones were amazing, Roy Harper (whatever happened to those charges?), I dig The Chills session I have, Trixies Big Red Motorbike for some bizarre proto-twee pop, Dog Faced Hermans- excellent, underrated band, Michael Hurley, Syd, A Certain Ratio, Stump were indeed amazing, Kevin Ayers, The Ex, Holger Hiller' spiel on himself was great, SPK, This Heat, Maher Shalal Hash Baz did a sesh- I wish he'd brought more Japanese weirdos over, they'd have been right up his alley. There are a few Russian acts he played whose names escape me right now- think Zvuki Mu may have been among them.

Mostly all sentimental as I was about 11 when I started listening to Peel - the falling spring to mind from around then:

The Slits (first session - my first "bootleg" using a very primitive radio casstee recorder)

Crass

The Ruts (all of them - Peel aired all of them just after Malcolm Owen passed away - took up half the show)

Restricted Code (Glasgow razor sharp guitar post punk meets funk)

There are photos of him around the right places at the right time with that Dallas thing.
