Apart from the Peel sessions already discussed I'll have to mention those by The Wild Swans...

Some great ones.

The Slits, Gang of Four, Wire, Billy Bragg, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, The Fall, The Wedding Present, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada spring to mind. And Half Man Half Biscuit.

My favourite Peel Sessions album is probably The Chameleons though.

When he died, I made a 4 disc compilation of session tracks for my half-brother, who's 10 years younger than me and didn't really know about Peel. Limited to one song per artist except for the Fall. Nothing pre-punk though, although the Can peel sessions are very good. The dates show how much great stuff was being recorded for him, especially in 77-80.

It was enjoyable making it, I was in shock probably. This was before the Teardrop Explodes and Section 25 sessions came out, otherwise they'd have featured too.

Love the sessions the Swell Maps did for Peel

1978

1979

1980

Also think the two Primal Scream sessions from 1985 and 1986 had a magic that they never got on record.

1985

1986

Wish someone would put up (or release) The Nightingales Peel sessions. I used to love the Peel version of Coincidence but the tape I had it on broke a long time ago.
