Just realised that there's a very good litmus of the legality of the Keyhole releases: their Zappa ones. If they were illegal the FZ estate would have them withdrawn in a trice. Nope: legal. The radio station must own the rights, and the label have struck a deal with them. I'm all in favour of indepedent radio... the stations concerned may be in a bad way. If these releases help them survive, fine. If estates have not benefitted sufficiently from orthodox back catologues of mainly very established artists there's something very wrong. As for sound quality, remember sitting by the radio when gigs were broadcast and just being glad to hear the music? Someone here made a comment about the 'up arse' mentality of the Steve Hoffman brigade. I agree. This stuff is not recorded with several wet dishcloths over the mic. Buy. Listen. Enjoy.

The original releases have been part of my life for 40 years and I know every note, every nuance as if they were burned straight into my DNA. Not sure how I would feel hearing nearly the same thing after all this time but a bit different. Do you find yourself going back to the original selections from the double albums or are there real gems among the unreleased versions? Get the Rory G set, it's a masterpiece from a masterpiece, yes it's expensive and it has 3 sets from the same tour but everything is on fire, the band , the crowd, the set list is Irish Tour 74 plus Live in Europe, it is amazing. If you like the original you'll love this. If they come up with an expanded Live In Europe I'll be on it like a shot OK. Thanks a lot for that. The big temptation for me was that there are so many tunes from Live In Europe in the expanded Irish Tour set. Hearing those songs with a different drummer would be interesting. I didn't see him until the Against The Grain tour the following year (75p to sit in the Albert Hall balcony) so missed them at their very peak will be great to hear some complete shows with that quartet.

I can honestly say that on first listen I got more pleasure from it than Spirit Live or Made in Germany. The playing's 'all there', seems more alive, vital, out on a limb. Due to my mate being crocked on the weekend I did'nt get another hoped for earful and am really looking forward to it. He may be able to tweak the sound a touch and brighten Randy's guitar a tad, but even as is I got absorbed in it after accepting the sonic imperfection. Treat it as you probably did in your teens, hearing your fave bands in concert on the radio, and its bloody enjoyable. Fuck the nitpicking in that respect. I've heard far worse audience boots. An important Randy 'n Ed sonic document. Although I give the heads up to folk here about Amazon releases I've abstained from buying anything from there myself for a couple of years, so will suss out alternatives...but, yes, I'm definitely parting with my hard earned for it, and gladly so.

Some great tracks indeed there. Not enormously keen on their post-English Settlement stuff, until the wondrous Apple Venus return, but a great band who've produced some belting records.

Wow, mammoth sesh. That must just about cover everything XTC have put out. I agree, they seem to be amongst the lost gems of English rock. This is a weird little goody too if you're in the right mood. XTC get 'dubbed' almost inna On 'U' Sound stylee. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Explode_Together:_The_Dub_Experiments_78-80 Quite a few of the tracks up on youtube.
