I used to be a huge JAMC fan, and bought a ticket for this gig ages ago but didn't feel very enthused about it, until... I just found out that Rose McDowall is providing the support! I feel quite excited about it now. Was at the Barrowlands for the original Psycho Candy tour. Don't think it could be recreated! Now Rose supporting that is interesting. Love lots of the stuff she's been involved in since then .. Psychic TV Godstar era, Current 93, Sleep, Coil etc ... Interesting to hear how it all goes. I bet the Mary Chain play longer than half hour this time!

'taw pretty good. Jim seemed to try to retain a bit of the rebellion of the original concerts by stating at the start that they would play a few songs, then do Psychocandy and that's it - lights will go up, no encore. That's exactly what they did - a few greatest hits including April Skies, Some Candy Talking, Reverence, and then Psychocandy in full. Quite loud and enjoyable. Seemed to go down well. I liked when they played the old East Kilbride public information film on the projector at one point. Rose McDowall was good too, although got a mixed reception. Her voice is not quite what it once was and I suspect that most of the audience had no idea who she was.

Just watched it over the weekend. Very good, if a bit too short. It would have been nice to have a bit more depth on some of the bands and I think that there's a lot more from that era in Glasgow that they could have covered. Orange Juice really are not my cup of tea if you see what I mean. The Soup Dragons bloke seems to be living in a high rise flat, although that might just have been the way it was cut.

Def too short. Would love to see a couple of hours maybe on that whole C86 era, not just Glasgow (although it was such an important part of the whole scene). "Indie" was something different before 1990 and a lot of people don't know how great that time was. I was spending loads of time at the Tropic in Bristol watching The Flatmates etc (there was f*ck all in Salisbury!). I seem to remember from some old SoupDragons flexi (maybe "Are You Scared to get Happy" zine) that they were from Bears den - so I'm guessing they don't live there now if they're in a block of flats. Great to see The Vaselines etc as they are now. More please C4.

aye, that's it. All this Glasgow 80's indie pop fervour has inspired me. I might go see the Vaseline tonight as well.

Put me in mind of early BBC2 Def II yoof culture show FSd ... which pretty much immediately followed on: http://www.offthetelly.co.uk/oldott/www.offthetelly.co.uk/indexd083.html?page_id=588 "BBC Scotland indie music series FSd. If anything typified the dodgy teething period for DEF II it was this unwieldy, irritating show. Its title reflected the objectionable notion that if you couldn’t think of a name then a few meaningless initials, one in lower case, would suffice. Wilfully obscure bands (The Hook’n'Pull Gang, The Blood Uncles, The Dog Faced Hermans) showed up alongside Hue & Cry and Ricky Ross, interspersed with ropey features on the music business. A hand-written scrawl ran up the side of the screen, which at least distracted attention from rather clichéd performance films and sloppy editing. In addition FSd was commissioned before Janet arrived, and this coupled with its blatant (bad) imitation of Network 7 in style and presentation was bound to anger her. It did. She hated the show, and made sure everyone knew. It ran for six weeks." All production value criticism aside, it was great exposure for Scottish bands, many of whom likely hadn't been on TV at all let alone outside Scotland. As I recall several lines of scrolling script along two or three sides of the screen at once so that it was impossible to keep up with all of the info overload. I certainly bought a few records as a result of encountering a couple of bands for the first time via this show ... not necessarily the ones featured below though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9Zv3Py7OHs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1fe-M4c9_0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CkIx2vPRnhM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLJ8cTVZV18
