80's Glasgow indie pop
Nov 20, 2014, 14:27
Saw a great documentary on C4 last night ("Music on 4") - all about the scene at Splash#1 in Glasgow circa 1985. Primal Scream, BMX Bandits, Vaselines etc. Made me feel old, but it was worth a watch.
Anyone else catch it?

Thanks for the nod. Kind of forget C4 is still there and still capable of being good. Will watch this morning after work.

Bugger, missed all that.

Currently enjoying the album from 2012 by the reformed The Wake though:

Cheers for the heads up. Don't watch a lot of tele these days, so miss out on the little gems like this.

Other two in series are not related to the indie stuff, No:1 is about Grime and No:2 is about 'Northern Beat', some 90's phenomenon whatever that was it passed me by.

In a related subject: I am going to see the reformed Jesus and Mary Chain tonight in Glasgow. I used to be a huge JAMC fan, and bought a ticket for this gig ages ago but didn't feel very enthused about it, until... I just found out that Rose McDowall is providing the support! I feel quite excited about it now.

Is this them doing Psychocandy? I'd love to have been going to one of these, haven't seen them since Rollercoaster.

yes, it's the Psychcandy tour. I feel a bit sceptical about it, but we'll see. Looking forward to Rosie though.

Hope it's a blast.

Saw a brief clip of them doing Upside Down in Paris the other night on Irvine Welsch's twatter feed. Sounded OK. Hope they manage to keep it together for new material, their final album proper, Munki was a goodie. Lot's of T-Rexy goodness all over it (In fac I'm gonna give it a spin right now).

Jesus, we, and our entourage used to go to Splash 1 every other Sunday. What a place! If anyone has a proper link. I would dearly love to see this doc. I did try to find it, but to no avail yet!

We even went to the Daddy Warbucks gig JAMC madness @ 46 West (same venue), which was totally insane. All 20 minutes of it!

I think their best song or pefomance after Psychocandy was 'Reverence'.

Such a great song.
