You missed this one. Anti-funk and punk. As good the Glasgow scene was, it was wiped out by the likes of of Deacon Blue, The River Detectives, Wet Wet Wet and basically plastic funk shite bands who had never even heard James Brown or The Gang of Four.

Anyway, this lot were great, even from the East Coast, as were Josef K. Nomatter. It happened in Glasgow, and that is the essence of chaos! Brill.

I actually tried to walk home 40 miles after missing the Edinburgh bus to Glasgow after a JAMC and Shop Assistants gig in Edinburgh. Got picked up by the mary chain lot apres-gig and spent the night in a van and ended up in an odd nice house, playing piano and eating fried eggs in EK in the morning.

A ten mile walk to home, but at least that lot were nice.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Shared a taxi to George Square with most of the Shoppies in order to get the bus to wherever. It was cool and reciprocated.

Went to the Princes Street thang in Edinburgh with a load of friends. In a friendly stramash previous to getting there, I ended unintentionally banging my head against a pillar with a fountain of blood spouting out of my head. Fountain stylee for real. Blood everywhere. No fear! Cleaned up and went to the venue with a bunch of people.

Met Alex Shoppie and had a chat about stuff. I had a huge gash on the top of my head. Are you ok? she said. I think so I said. She dedicated a song for me.

Then it gets better..........

I got near home in the late Summer sun. At the train station I stole some porn mags from the stand, fell asleep at home and was found walking up the street naked and playing a guitar. I tried to pay on the bus with bottle tops. I have no memory of this.

Told by others.

We have a family history of sleepwalking.

I was called 'Nick The Stripper' for a while.

How good is that?

What a gig experience!

Ah yes, great stuff! Always loved their approach to drumming.

That's some gig experience alright ... glad you survived to tell the tale!

At the Derby Wherehouse back in 1993 I saw BMX Bandits supported by 18 Wheeler and unannounced first-on (in front of about ten of us with the house lights still up) ... Oasis ... who were awful and obviously about to be huge.

I had a, what turned out to be entirely imaginary, job as a music journalist for a few months during that year and had gotten in free and was taken backstage by 18 Wheeler folk to have a chat with Duglas. It was the first and only time I ever got self-conscious meeting someone 'famous'. I still have the whole embarrassing interview on tape somewhere along with most/all? of the gig and a photo my mate took.

You should keep it and cherish it. I had an interview with Billy MacKenzie on tape which unfortunately got lost. Impromptu and only for 2 minutes, but I wish I still had it.

It'll be safe and sound in one of my many boxes of cassette tapes. These didn't go into storage and have remained safe and dry and not overly warm with me in whichever house I've been in.

Never did manage to get a copy of the Throwing Muses interview my girlfriend at the time and I conducted pre-gig at Portsmouth Poly ... 1st UK date of the Hunkapapa tour ... asked pretty much nothing musical and all sorts of daft things like personal preferences for duvets over blankets, what sort of art you have on your walls at home and which end of a jellybaby do you eat first?

Later on, their manager told us that they'd really enjoyed it. Having read Kristins' autobiog it must have made a refreshing change from all the 'serious' music journalists hounding them constantly about feminist principles/politics etc.
