Yesterday I went into one of our local charity shops and found Kate Bush's 50 Words for Snow Cd for £1.50 To me that's a far more exciting event than queuing up for ages to pay over the odds for something I don't really need.

It's easy to be unhappy about it - I would have rather liked to have got the Bolan boxset but I didn't, but people who work in independent record shops can't stress enough how good it is for their business so on that basis I'm not going to moan about it. Funnily enough although I played at a RSD event in the area, I didn't manage to get to the nearby shop because a)I kinda run out of time and b) I bought a couple of old 2nd hand records at the record fayre beneath where I was playing. But I will go along to the local shop in the week and see what is left.

Interesting article from the Quietus (sorry if it's already been mentioned above): http://thequietus.com/articles/15031-record-store-day-2014-problems-distribution-vinyl

sums it all up for me (from a small labels point of view anyway) things would be much better if they banned reissues, and limited any label to say a maximum of 2/3 releases on the day

Got an eye (loosely) on this festival, where they're playing. But, can't really work out how it works. If it's like the Stagger and Dagger in Glasgow (bands on at vaguely close venues at the same time) it'll be useless. Guaranteed clashes Edit: Whilst sold out, the queues for bars were never long, clashes infrequent Hmmm...

It would seem that Mr Weller himself concurs: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/paul-weller-pulls-out-of-record-store-day-after-his-singles-appear-on-ebay-9278610.html

"...at just 500 copies, Weller’s single was one of the most limited editions on offer..." Begs the question, what did he expect? I would be disappointed if shops were holding back stock to sell on eBay but, cynically, not surprised.
