Sting around the time of the first two Police albums was a fantastic advert for bass playing economy. He would walk the top five if he had maintained that standard rather than getting more into the singer songwriter / jazz thing.

I always loved Paul Simonon. Whenever you play one of his bass lines you always realise how integrated and essential it is

Yeah, I forgot Moose - a Wiltshire boy too. I think all the NMA bassists owed a lot to the first one, Stuart Morrow (where is he now?), and he, I am sure, would have loved to have been JJ Burnell!
