That's such an underrated Stones record. One or two spots of week material but it sounds gorgeous (specially the guitars) and the ballads are unusually good for them. Sincere even.
Not my fave by them tbh, but it has its moments and it's got a good sound. The word that came to mind when I listened to was 'fun'. I definitely prefer It's Only Rock'n'Roll though (I think you do, too?)
I go back and forth on that issue. IOR&R has a lot of great Mick Taylor playing on it AND it has my all time favourite bass line but it doesn't sound as good as Black and Blue. I don't mean in an audiophile way. I just mean in terms of warmth and immediacy. I am also a sucker for those Sly-esque clavinet and electric piano touches. That said there are no songs on B&B as good as Time Waits For No One and both albums suffer horribly from some of Jagger's Mind Your Language vocals tics. For God's sake man, sing in your own accent or failing that at least in an accent from your own country!
