Thoughtforms - S/T and Sky Pegs
Can't recommend this lot enough.

Jethro Tull - TOTR&R, Thick as a Brick

Porter Ricks - Biokinetcs
Great to hear this again after a long while, espesh on decent vinyl.
+ lots of Thomas Koner

Sun Araw - Ancient Romans
Nice! Only listened once so far, but glad I got it.

Kogumaza - S/T
Damn! I seem to have scratched this already.

Gnod - Chaudelande Vol 1
Bloody great. Vol 2 is on its way apparently.

Mugstar - Serra Remix & the split with Oneida
Top.

Hookworms - S/T

Music:

The Trees Community - The Christ Tree

Arica - Heaven

Jim Sullivan - UFO

Kane Pour - Wand in the Beak of a Yellow Bird

Julia Holter - Tragedy

Mirror to Mirror - Here You Leave Today

Thoughts on Air - Paleo Sails

Not much this week, but only because the first two were played with such frequency.

Film:

Le Sang d'un Poète [The Blood of a Poet] - Jean Cocteau, 1930

Sansh? Day? [Sansho The Bailiff] - Kenji Mizoguchi, 1954

Un condamné à mort s'est échappé ou Le vent souffle où il veut [A Man Escaped or: The Wind Bloweth Where It Listeth] - Robert Bresson, 1956

Apur Sansar [The World of Apu] - Satyajit Ray, 1959

Khaneh siah ast [The House is Black] - Forough Farrokhzad, 1962

Ruka [The Hand] - Ji?i Trnka, 1965

Film - Samuel Beckett, 1965

Byt [The Flat] - Jan Švankmaer, 1968

La Femme Qui Se Poudre [The Woman Who Powders Herself] - Patrick Bokanowski, 1972

Sansho the Bailiff is immediately up there as one of the best things I have ever, ever seen. I'm certain I won't see more than 3 or 4 films better than it in my lifetime. Simply devastating.

Vespertine – Björk
Lacks the consistency of the first two solo albums in my opinion, but then suddenly moments of brilliance arrive, seemingly from nowhere. Maybe I just never played this one enough.

Figments Of Emancipation – Doctors Of Madness
I played this as a result of seeing their name mentioned here recently. I hadn’t heard this in many a year and to be honest when it started I didn’t recognize it until the bit where it speeded up. There was mention that they missed out because they were too late for glam and too early for punk, but really if you take away the funny names there’s little that points the way to the latter here until we reach the final moments. Otherwise it’s the sound of a humourless Steve Harley re-making Aladdin Sane. Not bad but ultimately lacking the sparkle that their name might suggest.

Company / Black Fountain – Carlton Melton / Mugstar
7” single that comes with extra download tracks inc an extended version of Carlton Melton’s Company that is really rather good. He/they are new to me, but I’m impressed.

Nebulous Dawn: The Early Years – Tangerine Dream
Uneven 3 cd set. I know we’re supposed to like the early stuff better but frankly some of the first disc here is just a mess to my ears. It has its moments though...

See My Boat EP – V/A
I bought this for the Animal Collective-ish title track by Rozi Plain.

Also...
Rome - Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi
The Singles 86>98 – Depeche Mode
Ersatz GB – The Fall
Truelove’s Gutter – Richard Hawley
The Complete John Peel Sessions – Magazine
Today Is The Wrong Shape EP - Mugstar
Ghosts Songs EP – Rain Kings
The Trip – Latetia Sadier
In Nightfall – Seabuckthorn
Red Heaven – Throwing Muses
World Of Hits Vol 7 (Decca) – V/A
Black Session - Wire

And various Associates singles...

It's good that Carlton Melton/Mugstar thing isn't it? I don't think I got a d/load with mine though, I'll have to check. And who is/are Carlton Melton? I only got it because I love Mugstar, but the CM side is very good too.

Check the sleeve, Squid. The web page details are there although if your eyesight is anything like mine you might need glasses for it! ; )

(I'd read about the added downloads on the net or I may have missed it, too - you get the Mugstar track, an extended take on the CM track and an extra track by both, so it's well worth checking out)

Smashing - I'm glad you mentioned it! I like getting d/load codes for vinyl - the best of both worlds.

not as annoying as the last tracks on side 3 totally ruining the atmosphere, much as I love TD they were all over the shop on the early stuff &IMHO didn't hit their stride until Alpha Centauri, and the cut off point is way beyond the accepted 'Ricochet at a push', still when they did get it right [Cold Smoke, one of my favourite song titles as well]they were great
