I was just wondering what people here considered neccessary out of Yoko Ono's lps. Also if there was likely to be a set of remasters about to happen since Apple seems to be reissuing everything else on the label. The last remasters came out around the time the Onobox was released in '97. First lp the Yoko Ono one from the 2 nearly matching sleeve Plastic Ono Band lps has some resemblance to Malcolm Mooney era Can. I just read a review comparing one of the tracks from Fly to Tago Mago. Not sure if that's a feeling that runs through all of her lps. Think what had me thinking of her was a comparison of neccessity between her 1st 4 lps and Throbbing Gristle's run of lps in a thread on them on another list. Could be on the basis of difficult listening being somewhat addictive. Not sure what else fits into that category, some of the NWW list? & presumably the more music concrete bits of Can? Stevo

Why is in my Top 10 songs of all time. John Lennon's shredding on that is something else. Why didn't he ever play like that again?

Fly is a great place to start as it contains "Don't Worry Kyoko" which is a stunning track.. IMHO It's also a lot more like a slightly off kilter rock album than things like Life With Lions, Two Virgins etc so a great jumping off point. I think Yoko has been pretty unfairly treated over the years and rather than being as crap as journalists claim she's just not as mainstream as most of those journos tastes were/are. David

1. Plastic Ono Band (1970) - the best! 2. Fly (1971) - next best! 3. Live Peace in Toronto (1969) - side 2 only (a forgotten classic really) 4. Life With The Lions (1969) - side 1 only ("Cambridge 1969") 5. Sometime In New York City (1972) - just the live half (most of which was cut from the CD reissue) That's the indispensable list. I have never been a fan of her "pop" songs, just the banshee noises! No one else comes close. Who has ever even tried?

>5. Sometime In New York City (1972) - just the live half (most of which was cut from the CD reissue) Well, no. The first release on CD (1990) was a 2-disk set, identical to the vinyl version. In 2005, Yoko released a condensed, single disk version: http://www.amazon.com/Sometime-York-City-John-Lennon/dp/B000AZ6N5G/ref=sr_1_2?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1320640160&sr=1-2 The original, complete 2-disk version was reissued last year: http://www.amazon.com/Sometime-York-City-John-Lennon/dp/B003Y8YXG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1320640160&sr=1-1
