I've never had time for instrument smashing. They're thinks of artistic and actual beauty. As for Pete Townsend artistic expression? Didn't he go through a Roger Waters phase as well ? maybe that was something to do with it. I've never had time for Successful Rock Stars bemoaning the unlucky lot of the Successful Rock Stars. In all honesty, I'd rather be stuck in a lift with David Lee Roth than Rog any day.
Ravi Shankar one got very cross with George Harrison in fron of the other Beatles. He scolded him and cuffed him on the leg for stepping over his sitar. Not respectful to the instrument, y'see....
