What do those mono Dylan CDs sound like? We've got a copy of the box at work but I've been too busy to give it a proper listen as yet.

There's a new box set containing the original mono mixes of all of his early albums prior to "Nashville Skyline", but it costs £60 (which at least is a tad less expensive than that Beatles one). There is also a "Best of the Mono Box" compo available for a fiver if you don't want to shell out for the whole lot.

I've only heard it all the way through once, and wasn't feeling very receptive at the time. Didn't sound like any progress or new direction had been taken - didn't feel essential listening like the first one. Will listen to it some more.

Going back to King Creosote, i believe he is associated with the Fence Collective and that his brother, Gordon fronts The Aliens? TBH, haven't really listened to much Fence output

I too love the earlies and have both their albums. Word has it that they are no longer recording, but have their own recording studio and produce and back other people now. Didn't they back King Creosote on an album?

I've yet to hear the second Earlies album, but I bought the first one (and loved it) when it came out. Saw them live too. Never seen them mentioned by anyone else here as yet. though, so good to know that their ripple has spread...Posthuomous cult status ahoy.

Monster Magnet - Mastermind
Dave is back to the Spine of God/TAB madness well eavy

It's unlike me not to agree with you 100% Tone, but I disagree in that I think it's quite a modern sounding Monster Magnet album (as opposed to being modern sounding per se). It's bloody great (natch), but I think it's a fair way off SOG or TAB in the (psychedelic) madness stakes.

But then every single MM album has been a grower for me - they all take a while to 'click', but when they do it's peerless stuff. But I stand by my claim that they're the only long-running band never to have made a bad album, hence why I loves 'em like I does :)

Lovin' Mastermind, had it on repeat for 3 days :)

Kommunizm - Russian Title (looks like a play on Let It Be to me)

It's full've awesome destroyed feedback-laced Russian anti-folk. From what I can gather, this is a scabrous concept album all about defacing and destroying classic rock and that mild West Coast vibe. The cover is a vandalized version of the Let It Be cover (a good indication of the music therein), and the album is bookended with bad karaoke plunderponics of standards (including the eponymous Macca track, which they add an OTT guitar solo on just for kicks). One of the songs on here has one of the most awesome choruses I've heard in some time. Yegor Letov screams in the most painful bloody growl: "Stooooooooop the Rolling Stones! Stooooooooop The Beatles, Stooop! Stop the Devil's Stones!" Damn.

You can download it here.

For some reason this won't download for me - I've tried 4 times since your post - any chance of a re-up pretty please?

Posted this in the other thread. I'll re-up it when I get my stuff back. In retrospect though, Egor & The Fuckups is definitely a better place to start with. That Egor/Yegor Letov guy is classic. He's released about 100 albums under various names over the years and I think I remember reading that he formed his first band in a mental institution (the only place to escape the prying eyes of the Kremlin).

Haven't got the CD-R here at the moment. Left a box-full of stuff at a friend's house after DJ'ing at a house party the other night. I'll link you to another project by the same guy. Much more psychey actually and arguably a way better place to start with. Another one of my favourite albums (he did the guitar on Yanka's record). One tick.

Egor & The Fuckups - One Hundred Years of Solitude. Enjoy. Here's a Youtube taster: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS8tjFfUE-o
