Not bad for 99p brand new; one long track, a collage of found sounds in a Residents-style."

Forgot all about that. Just rang my brother in Brighton and asked him to get me it for Xmas. Hope he can - I get the CD (no record shops where I live) and he gets to get me a present that only costs 99p. Weinars all round.

Thanks Hunter.

I got it from Resident in Brighton, hopefully they still have a few.

Six Organs of Admittance- Empty the Sun.
New limited release from Ben Chasny, packaged with a novel of the same name by Joseph Mattson. Fairly typical fare, the band in far gentler and more reflective mood than their recent live shows. Includes a cover of 'Roll the Stone' by Epic Soundtracks.

I too have been playing this lately... haven't yet read the book and am having a helluva' time fitting this into my cd collection ta' boot! ;-)

To me this isn't quite as strong has the last 2 or 3 from him... but then again Luminous Night and The Sun Awakens are pretty damned special albums.
Shelter from the Ash slightly less so but I must say I rate it higher than this one SO FAR. I suspect that with repeated listens it'll grow on me.

Not surprising really, as it was recorded while they were probably pumping him with allsorts of stuff while he was at the 'mental hospital'!

Indeed, and coming off heroin after a four-year habit is bound to make you feel that way even without psych meds.

I haven't managed to catch up with Luminous Night yet, due to being very skint for a while... when some money came in I thought I'd better buy this first as there's only a thousand pressed, I believe?

I agree it's not as strong as, say, The Sun Awakens, but still enjoyable and picks up on side two I think (I bought the vinyl- has the book inside the same size, ie. 12" by 12"). I've started reading the book while listening to the record- I'm a couple of chapters in and quite enjoying it.

Did you catch any of their recent live dates, redfish?

I love The Sun Awakens... actually it's probably my fave thus far... but Luminous Night is really close man!! I'll have to read the book too... along with the music, natch!

My copy is cd... and the disc is in a plastic sleeve on the inside of the back cover. Not sure if the cd is also as limited as the vinyl... somehow I suspect they've done more cds.

I live in Chicago and haven't ever had a chance to see them live but will almost certainly go next time they come to the Windy City!
