Just about every song on it's got a hook or two to enjoy and i love the lyrics and the subtle referencing of past material ( which i didn't really pick up on the first couple of plays ). Hillage's small but perfectly formed solos just leave me wanting more, Miquette's ebbing / flowing synth wash is just how it should be and i'm really getting into Theo Travis' sax playing, more muscular and less playful than Didier perhaps but still ticking my boxes. Only problem i've got with it now is that i seem to be flogging it to death ! Was thinking how similar Julian's trip is to Daevid's too, not that he'd necessarily agree, mind. Both of them have got that shamanistic thing going on, only with Daevid comin' from an imaginary planet in outer space ( or is it, hehe ) and with Julian's more macho trip comin' from somewhere deep underground ! I agree about the similarity of the trips - the same, but different! Theo Travis' sax - I love the recording of this, you can even hear the little pads on the sax moving and closing in places :-) I like the teeny bits of Didier Malherbe tucked away there too, wish there was more though. I agree with pretty much all of your post actually. I seem to be flogging it to death too - I hope I don't overdo it and get bored with it. Something I'm often prone to do with things I love! Glad to hear it is growing...

Couldn't agree more, maybe his success with the Hadouk Trio on the continent meant he didn't have the time to contribute more ? I agree with pretty much all of your post actually. Think i'll have to start rationing plays to one a day. Glad to hear it is growing... Like one of your relatives, it's becoming colossal ! Edit - sorry but the replies didn't quite appear as i expected, oops.

I listened to it through on my way home last night to try to spot and identify the bit where I heard the mechanics of the sax in the recording, but couldn't find it. Maybe I dreamt it!

I loved In Gowan Ring. Nice autumnal field music. Thanks for the reminder to dig them out again.

think they've been playing recently too. think the live set by them I got off dime over last couple of months was very recent, week old at the time or something. hadn't realised they still existed. have The Glinting Spade by them but that's about 5 years old now isn't it? Stevo

I only have 'Spiral' and 'Hazel Steps Through A Weathered Home', but I plan to get some more. I got into them via that World Serpent comp. 'Terre Serpentes'- I think they had/have a lot more than the usual so-called neo-folk outfits. "Nice autumnal field music" - couldn't have put it better myself monsieur res ;-)

Stevo They sure have some back catalogue! For some reason I thought they only had a few things out http://www.discogs.com/artist/In+Gowan+Ring
