Did I read somewhere recently that Hooky's characteristic high notes bass playing style was adopted cos he couldn't hear the low notes coming out of a crappy amp?

Ian Dury's/Chas Jankel's Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll riff was ripped off of some throwaway thing Charlie Haden did in the midst of Ornette Coleman's "Ramblin'"

Amen to at least the first, maybe first two, OM lps.

I do pay attention to Lesh but it never occurred to me to think of him as a dominating musical force (although often he seems to be the only one paying any attention to what's going on)

Henderson and Foster are the fulcrum around which the rest of the ambient washes

I guess you couldn't say the "album is constructed around it," but the basslines of Wooden Shjips really tend to make it (well, you could SAY it)

Anything by Jonas Helborg?

Nishinihon?

How about any decent "live" album?

I''d say there were a fair few of those, but that's enough material for a seperate thread.

Oh yeah! Definitely put Mike Watt's "Contemplating The Engine Room" at the top of this list as well.

Hah.... I'm digitizing 'Jesus Christ Superstar' right now and realizing how much it's built around the bass.
