I wasn't being tongue-in-cheek except for the "obvious and indisputable fact" bit. I do dislike that album a lot. Maybe it's due to over-exposure (my elder bro used to play it to death when it got came out), but it smacks too much of lame, affected, theatrical angst to me - plus the lyrics seem about as bad as sixth-form poetry gets (I mean, opening an album with "It doesn't matter if we all die?" Like, yeah dude, that's a real insightful take on the human condition you've got there).

Maybe I wouldn't mind so much if it had a few decent tunes to support it -like the earlier, more poppy Cure albums have - but all I can hear on that record is a relentless, grinding, morbid cacophony. Sure, you could
level that same accusation at some of the bands I do like - the Birthday Party or early Swans, for instance - but both of them sound far more convincingly unhinged than Robert Smith to me.
