when you say they haven't progressed
do you actually mean they haven't disappeared up their backsides for the sake of it ?
I await the 'DC/Eno collaboration with interest.
Actually, the producer who I'd really like to see them paired with would be Steve Albini - he'd apply the polish remover and dirty the sound up considerably. Could make for a very interesting combination, but it'd never happen, natch.
All the money's in touring these days, so I guess the new record's merely a promotional vehicle to put bums on seats.
Either way, they're worth checking out live. I saw them at Hammersmith a few years ago and I was struck by the transformation in their live sound. Back at Donington in '84, Angus' SG sounded like a rusty lawnmower cranked up to 11 but when I caught them last, they swung more than rocked. They seemed to get their groove back and were as un-metal as I've ever heard them. Malcolm's Gretsch actually sounded like a Gretsch should, if that makes any sense.
Totally. Like when ZZ Top dumped the sequencer.
