As a punk from 1976/77 era, I feel that although The Clash were good, and had the attitude, they could NEVER be regarded as even the best punk band ... damn ... I even went to watch The Lurkers instead messrs Jones, Strummer and co! As we keep saying it's all subjective ... The Damned are simply much better ... check out their new studio album later in the year ... and before you all criticise, go have a listen to their last offering, Grave Disorder. Quite simply, excellent stuff. For me, the best band ever ... The lone offering by The La's is a classic! Oasis? No Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias? No Hell ... I have no idea!

It seems i have sparked up a debate around here which in my heart of hearts i stand by. The Clash have been my soundtrack for the last thirty years (cause ive only got one album) and as much as i try to listen to these modern artistes no one has ever had that attitude, that snarl, that passion (just listen to Joe Strummer on 'Complete Control' when he sings "Youre my guitar hero" the hairs fell off my back a long time ago. They look like a band you'd want to be in i mean honestly all the people who voted for Joy Division would you honestly want to be in that band. Who wants to go to bed at half ten on a friday night with a book of poetry and a cup of Ovaltine i mean honestly!!!!. No The Clash were perfect, everyone was exact for the band even that fact that Simonon knew less chords than vicious should sway the silent majority.

Nowthen, I do like the early Clash very much, personally. White Riot, Police and Thieves, Safe European Home, are all great tracks. I like Give 'Em Enough Rope, but Black Market Clash is probably my favorite of anything by them. Armagideon Time, and their cover of Pressure Drop is better than the original. But, the best band EVER? I'm not able to boil everything away in the musical soup of my life and pick just one band. I remember, after they split and Big Audio Dynamite formed, thinking that you could then easily tell which tracks were written by Strummer, and which were by Jones. Speaking of Jones...er, Tones, did you two make it down to The Mill tonight? I understand he's building up a tolerance for this coming weekends' birfday festivities. Sadly, I won't be there to make him his full breakfast or fetch him his paracetemol in the morning. Oh, and they are a nice group 'round here ;-) x Good evening red paeony Mr. Tones wasn't in the Mill on Saturday night he hasn't been the same since he saw The Fall. Last time i saw him he was speaking in a broad Mancunian accent smoking rollies and picking fights with hoodies outside the betting shop........................not true of course...........IT WAS THE BANK (Boom Boom). I will no doubt join him for a small dry sherry on friday night and don't worry i'll look after him. I bet that's put your mind at rest. Sorry if i've gone off topic here so i'll get it back GO CLASH

It's Funny I never thought of the clash as a "punk" band at all nor did anyone in the circle I ran with at the time. They were always a pop/new wave kinda thing.I mean songs like Radio Clash and Should I stay or should I go Punk rock? Naw man thats not punk. But whatever They still weren't all that either way just kinda luke warm soggy toast or something.

'Should i stay or should i go' is the beginnings of Big Audio Dynamite.

Their punk albums are the first two UK/US versions, various singles, eps.
