"Band on the Run" on AM radio -- which for some reason I thought at the time was a song by KC & the Sunshine Band (don't ask me why.) And listening to 8-tracks on my grandpa's new-fangled stereo: "Ahab the Arab" by Ray Stevens and a whole bunch of Roger Miller songs stick in my head. I don't even know the names of those Miller tunes, but there's one about "the chimes of big ben" and the "faces of the lit-tle chil-dren" that sticks out. And the one about how "you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd" (isn't that song called "Dang Me"?) Plus of course, "King of the Road"! I think the first bands I liked were The Police and Hall & Oates -- they seemed so modern compared to that "grandpa's music"! Ahh the 80's! (I can practically see myself running around in a space age polythene coat and "moon boots" . . . )

Oh, and the Beatles "Let It Be". I thought it was about Cheddar Cheese. (Well I was only four...)

Bobby Goldsboro's "Summer, The First Time" always takes me back to a summer holiday in North Wales in the early 70s, though I didn't know then what the song was really about. I rememeber me & my sister driving our parents mad with screechy renditions of "Don't Stand so close to me" a few years later, too. TV-wise, I TRULY rememeber my dad (he was a vicar)'s reaction to Marc Bolan. Funny all these memories are linked to holidays. That one was Devon.

Some things that really stand out would be..... The outside loo at the bottom of the back garden (!) Cutting edge laundry technology i.e. the Dolly Tub, The Mangle Bathing in a tin bath =8-[] Then the luxury of moving to a house around the corner with a proper bathroom! On TV: The Zarbis, Menoptera, Cybermen and the Daleks on Doctor Who The Outer Limits On Top of the Pops: Too many to mention, but among them- The Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Small Faces, The Move

Remember him as a kid, thought he was great until I saw him again 25 years later - RANK! I used to really think 'Bo Rap' went 'Spare him his life for his pork sausages' - I really did. Also lyrics gave me early thoughts about death. Brrrrr! x

Funny how the "novelty records" seem to make such a big impression on everybody . . . Bohemian Rhapsody's kind of a "novelty record" for that matter!
