My family are into brass bands and choral music so i didnt have much encouragement in the music buying or even going to town area, actually i dont think i even went to a record shop till i went to town for the first time on my own. So my choice of records at home apart from the sacred first beatles album the only music in our house was pretty dire things like the wombles and pinky and perky amongst black dyke mills and harry secombe. The fist album bought for me on tape by a french student who came to stay was King's Steps in Time, i was pretty bonkers on them when i was about 8. Then with my own money the first albums I bought for myself were The Smiths The Queen is Dead I think shortly followed by St Julian and the Psychedelic Furs Midnight to Midnight, I think theirpretty cool choices for an 11 year old.
