i'd second pretty much all of them, but you forgot one of my absolute favorites + a stone classic = The Congos' "heart of the congos" /// real peak of perry mid-70s production, AND they sing like angels ... beautiful stuff i'm also really partial to perry's "soundsz from the underground" (is that what it's called?) compilation of late 70s stuff = "free up the prisoners" is mindbending!

That's right, singingringtree (also a tin teardrop), The Congoes (as reissued by Blood & Fire) is sublime. I was at work, couldn't think straight. Knew I'd miss a few. Now I'm home & I took inventory of my Lee Perry stuff: 26 lps + (45s, 12"s, Bob Marley stuff not counted) 24 cds. So, a few more: "Soundz from the Hotline" w/ the mindbending "Free Up the Prisoners" singingringtree so rightly praised- all 12:36 of it! and the other not-to-be-missed gem from the Heartbeat catalog: "Upsetter in Dub" the most solid all dubs Upsetter release ever. "Open the Gates" on Trojan- worth it just for the insane "City Too Hot" , which has also been reissued (just the tune) in 12" vinyl format recently- HUNT IT DOWN!! and a few personal recommendations outside of the usual suspects list: Jah Lion- Columbia Colly George Faith - To Be a Lover (featuring a wicked vers. of Paul Anka's "Diana"(!!!) better full up on the lambsbread, seen!

Monos - Window. Nice mix of birdsong and other natural sounds and drones and whirrs. William Basinski - Melancholia. Like it sounds. Quite 'Music for Films'ish. Various breakcore and all that. (Venetian Snares in Detroit for one). But best of all (by miles)...... YAMASUKI - LE MONDE FABULEUX DES YAMASUKI . Thanks aqk! This is fantastic and has me dancing round the house smiling. Ace!!! x

"Hence the trembling fingers on the keyboard?" nah, that's the DTs ... apparently the girls aloud gal is called sarah hardy, but she had to change her real surname which, like my work comrade, is hardman ... i guess that's not "popstar" enough.... sakedelic - i'm gonna try to check out that perry in dub cd sometime - looks really generic from the cover (nowt WRONG w/ that, y'unnserstand) but yr other perry recommendations are SO spot on that i'd be a fool to miss it

cheers, singingringingtree, I am so flattered that I have taken the trouble to learn how to spell your most poetic pseudonym.

A few more killer Upsetters releases (absolutely!) -I should've looked closer when I was counting them all: Upsetters - Double Seven The Mighty Upsetter - Kung Fu Meets the Dragon (way-cool instrumental/dub set) Lee Perry & Friends - Shocks of Mighty (the set that started it all for me) and on second thought, skip that Pressure Sounds comp. "Divine Madness", it's more of a completists batch of also-rans than I remembered so, stevo, how's the book?
