I guess I didn't phrase that brilliantly. What I was meaning to say following on from Dogs post was that some of those synth sounds the Orb took from early 70's Gong were coming through a little bit on Angels Egg too

I remember hearing an old track by Screaming Lord Sutch that I thought was really scary. I remember a DJ from the 80s I knew (who now runs a record store and radio station) once cut that track into "Don't You Want Me".

"Don't you want me baby. Don't you want me EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!"

Doesn't matter to me what Reed intended. I like it anyways...

I think Crome were ace, but not necessarily ahead of their time. Always thought they were more like if Cabaret Voltaire were a metal band...

I wanna second Kraftwerk
Jul 30, 2004, 15:57
yes, I wanna second that. Never again has any band been more ahead of their tiume than those blokes.

As far as I``M concerned, the first to use vocoders, the first to sing about electric cafes ( Internet cafes ), use of robots, computers ( computer love - chatrooms etc. )

What visionaries !

bwahahaha!

Brilliant comments AQK. Were the Lead Zeppelins ahead of their time because today Whyte Stypes sound just like em?

But I do think that Gong album is futuristic just the same -- it's not just the tones on the keyboard it's the "funky electric drift" of the whole thing. Crank up the drums and it's "techno" or "electronica" or "rave" or whatever them whipper-snappers are calling "music" nowadays.
