Killing Joke live. I love their albums, but they sound awful live. I've seen them twice ( I thought they might have had an off day) but nope, they were poo.

I was gonna say pretty much what Moon Cat said really. Acid House was a cultural phenomenon in Britain that is much more important than just the music. Having said that, it was of its time and the label Acid House didn't last long over here anyway. And the music all sounding 'the same' is actually part of the point, to aid seemless DJing.

Basically, Acid House and the explosion of rave culture was a vital period in the history of youth culture in Britain and it cetainly didn't feel hyped at the time. It felt revolutionary and was scaring the pants of our parents and politicians like any youth movement should. Not so much because of the music, but because of the drugs and the massive collective 'Fuck You' by a disenchanted and disenfanchised youth directed at an adult world still smugly writhing around in the worst excesses of Thatcher's politics.

Divorce the music from this social context and I can see how you might feel let down. But to anyone who was part of the whole thing, Acid House was definitely not just hype.

How about King Adora? The NME fell right on their arses with that one! Trying to persuade their readers they were the new great glam saviours, when they were just a bunch of minging plumbers in cheap lippy.

And whilst we're at it The Manic Street Preachers were the precedent for the King Adora hype. The thousands of fauning NME column inches devoted to their brand of arrogant glam still couldn't disguise the fact that they were a pretty average pub rock band. Still, at least they did actually manage to sell records, which is more than can be said for King Adora.

Couldn't fucking post the goddamned first time! FUCK!

I was just asking if anyone ever liked Birdland at all. I've always heard everyone hated them, and surely they were never hyped, were they?
