"Scotch Corner" by Man. When the screeching, dual guitar solo kicks in, it makes me feel like leaping around the room like a 13-year old wannabe rockstar still. The (still undeniably brilliant) Television can kiss my ass. If all the best bits of "Marquee Moon" were condensed into one-and-a-half minutes worth of music, it would sound like this. And Allen Ravenstine's one-note synthesizer drone at the start of "Non-Alignment Pact" by Pere Ubu. Somehow you know just from this one moment that the album's gonna be a masterpiece.

Joy Division seem to be a popular choice for having this effect. My goosebump track by them is 'Heart and Soul'. The intro especially. Hooky's bass intro to 'Transmission' does it too. The Cocteau Twins 'Lazy Calm' on Victorialand. When the languid sax at the beginning builds up to the guitars' sudden appearance. That does it. Liz Frazer's voice soars on that track too. The bit on 'The 9th Wave' by Kate Bush where those voices whisper "Wake up!" and the "red, red roses bit suddenly crashes in. The bit on Amon Duul II's Phallus Dei where the vibraphone comes in near the end. Ooh, I could go ooooon...!

The bit in Underworld's MMM Skyscraper I Love You where the drums do their 'DURURTATATrurtatatata' bit as the bassline boings along.

Kate Bush: Breathing - final part, Kate repeatedly whispers/sings in-out, in-out, in-out, then heavy chorus sets in with Roy Harper's backing vocals repeating just one phrase, Kate's lead voice(rather backing the backing) coming in again - screaming at top of her voice, before chorus suddenly falters into near silence... (As I write this I once again notice the erotic qualities of that stuff - AM I TOO FREUD TO ROCK'N'ROLL?)
