The usual idiocy from Nigel Swift (no surprise). The only contributors talking sense here are Amil04 and phallus dei.

The collapse of the World Economy (which pays for all the services, including Health Services, which Nigel so enjoys, and which pays his public sector wages. It also, y'know, pays for food and shelter world-wide.)

If Nigel wants to starve unemployed and homeless in the streets, he is free to do so, but he ain't gonna drag the rest of us with him.

Maybe he should read the following from the conspiracist theorists at the United Nations:

"COVID-related hunger could kill more people than the virus

COVID-19 has killed hundreds of thousands over the past few months. But as the health crisis becomes an economic one, funding shortfalls and supply chain issues could see millions more die of hunger.

After months of lockdown, countries around the world are starting to reopen. And yet still, the death toll from COVID-19 keeps rising. By the end of June, a little over 500,000 people had succumbed to the disease.

But that could be a drop in the ocean compared to the humanitarian fallout. “We’ve seen 400,000 die from COVID-19,” David Beasley, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme, warned in June. “We could see 300,000 die a day, for several months, if we don’t handle this right.”

Beasley, who was speaking on a panel with other United Nations leaders at the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit, explained that things were already bad before the pandemic. “Before COVID hit the scene, I had already been saying that 2020 was going to be the worst humanitarian crisis year since World War II.” It’s estimated that 9 million people die of hunger each year, more than the death toll of AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

But the pandemic could make the situation even worse, as the breakdown of supply chains has left the World Food Programme and other United Nations agencies struggling. “The commercial airline industry has all but shut down,” Beasley said, making it hard to get the supplies and experts out to where they are needed.

And as the health crisis becomes an economic one, Beasley worries that funding might dry up, causing starvation on an enormous scale. “This hunger pandemic will rip through the hearts of many nations of the world.”

If this disaster is to be averted, it will take a cross-sector collaboration from Government, business and civil society leaders, Beasley said. “It’s all hands on deck from everybody.”

The private sector has already been stepping up, Elisabeth Cousens, President and CEO of the United Nations Foundation, noted in the session. “Since the start of COVID-19, we have seen exceptional leadership from the business community.” For example, early on in the crisis, the UN Foundation set up the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund. “Over 140 companies globally have already given to the fund, along with 400,000 individuals. That makes them collectively the second-largest donor to the World Health Organization’s immediate efforts,” Cousens pointed out.

Without that ongoing support, the consequences could be catastrophic, Beasley predicted. “You’re going to have destabilization, you’re going to have mass migration, you’re going to have war on top of war, conflict on top of conflict. I can tell you, that’s going to cost a thousand times more. By doing it on the front end, this will be a lot cheaper.”

He can't answer so resorts to this. He really is a cowardly woke little tit.

Oh, do stop it. On Wednesday 83 million Germans are going into a severe lockdown but you know better.

That really is my last word (and my good wishes were entirely sincere and I repeat them).

Just because someone's views differ from your own doesn't make them a troll.

Since the start of the pandemic, there's been a wealth of legitimate criticism about the need for lockdowns, their social cost, their relative effectiveness, etc. Much of this criticism has been made by scientists and physicians themselves. (Such as the California Bakersfield doctors in April, the doctors / professors behind the Great Barrington Deceleration in October, and the recent Danish study that found masks to be ineffective at stopping the spread of Covid.) A good site that keeps track of this important data is
https://swprs.org/facts-about-covid-19/

Admittedly, these are still minority viewpoints within the dominant narrative, but when we look at the terrible economic and mental toll of the lockdowns (Japan, for example, has had more people die from suicide due to the lockdown than Covid-19), their skepticism of the dominant narrative gains more credence. Indeed, it is hard to imagine how a disease with a mortality rate of less than 1% warrants such a draconian response. It is also clear, 9 months into this mess, that lockdowns have done little if anything to stop the spread.

Are our governments therefore uniformly incompetent, comically implementing one failed policy after another, never learning from their mistakes? Or are the lockdowns simply cover for something far more sinister?

Sadly, I believe the latter. The undemocratic powers which rule our governments (the 1%, the military-industrial-pharmaceutical complex, the CIA, etc) are highly competent at what they do.

No, but only ever turning up here to post oppositional content in order to provoke a response is pretty much the definition of trolling.

I've recovered now. I have no problem with contrary posts, even ones consistently trying to provoke, I've been here long enough not to be put off but deliberate targeting for repeated nasty insults is a bit much.

It;s a shame as although I totally disagree with him he is obviously well-read though not well enough to read the Forum Conduct thread at the top of TMA, I expect I could have got him banned in an instant on that basis but haven't because I'm such a nice old chap these days. (No thanks needed but would be welcome.)

Thanks Nigel old chap! ; )

What would we do with out you?

They want us in the game. It doesn’t matter what side you’re on. It’s a way to avoid any real dialogue any real getting to the heart of any matter. That’s on anything..they want people to actively take sides and encourage people to do so in all sorts of ways that people are not generally aware of. Everything on tv..every second of it is propaganda.
Gogglebox..blatant. We think we’re just being entertained..were being conditioned..our guard is down because it’s put across as ‘entertainment.’ It’s subtle. Things like that are more likely to come out of ‘the nudge committee’ or the ‘behavioural insights team’ not a tv production studio..what’s the difference these days? All sounding rather communist? I’d go so far as to say that Britain started to become a communist country after the end of WW2. Ideologically.
Same as all the silly videos on the likes of fab and Twatter. They’re not made by people with too much time on their hands for a laugh. The guy speaking like a child wanting to order macdonalds?. I got a macdonalds now deliver leaflet through the door that day..by coincidence. His cousin needed some plants moving..the lady/man? who’d just had the jab and was uncontrollably twitching? The lady copying the yoga? A friend showed me these. I don’t think these are a harmless laugh...

A four/five hour discussion.
