FW, i do not dispute the possibility of biodiesel / veg oil being used on a local level for public transport. However, the amount of energy used by private automobiles cannot be replaced with veg oil, however enthusiastic Mr. Clarkson may get.

I have no doubt that we will end up inflicting even more misery, pain and death on the third world in our various attempts to save the private car. This fact would sicken me even if these attempts weren't short-sighted, egocentric and doomed to failure.
