This is an interesting thread, and I may as well put my two cents in.
I'll preface my remarks by just saying that all my anti-drug comments spring from my desire to see people get the maximum out of life. I don't judge the people who do it (they have every right to do so), only the action and the extent to which their drug use is destructive & anti-creative. And in my own case and from what I've observed it usually is destructive, if not sooner then certainly later.
One of my main themes is poison. We are all living in the middle of a major ecological disaster. That is simply an objective fact. This is truly "The Age of Poisons." And believe me it comes from personal experience when I say that our bodies are under enough of a burden already. Specifically our livers are already working overtime to get rid of toxins which come from our food, air, water, & (a HUGE culprit) prescription drugs. And since I've spent the last 6 years getting that shite out of my body at great personal expense (and feel a MILLION times better), I'm not about to start the process all over again. Why on earth would I?
But the human body's capacity for regeneration is absolutely astounding once it is tapped into. That is why I would highly recommend that those who "indulge" simply give their bodies a break by doing herbal colon cleanses, food supplementation, saunas, etc. on a regular basis just to clean out the rubbish. It's no accident that Timothy Leary died of cancer or that Julian did the strongest work of his career after cleaning up his act a bit.
And don't stand pat, mare-C. Find some better doctors who don't practice clueless mainstream medicine. Your "natural chemical balance" isn't natural at all, I suspect. I had very similar problems, and the cures came from directions I never dreamed of. You owe it to yourself to look into some options. Trust me when I say that there are some.
