It's probably a lot worse than Thatcherite privatisation. I don't know enough about Tsvangirai's policies to comment specifically about Zimbabwe, but historically when this kind of free-market liberalisation occurs in the "developing world" (a terrible phrase, but slightly better than "third world") it involves selling off the nation's assets to foreign investors and conglomerates. And usually the money raised from that fire-sale ends up in a handful of Swiss bank accounts rather than being invested in the country or distributed equitably amongst the poor.

I'm definitely not suggesting that Mugabe is a better option. He's clearly a brutal tyrant. But selling off the nation to the tyranny of the global market is probably not the best alternative.
