Plenty of MP's out there who could do a much better job for their local electorate, I agree.
I still say that Galloway has had an important role in the presentation of Middle Eastern politics within the UK. And I still tend to think that a left wing politician who winds up the Tory press, meeja, and the carpet bagging yuppie scum of "new" labour is something we need.

Praps I'm thinking of the wrong person.
Haven't heard much from Lemon lately, and I know he was off to Thailand to teach English.
Thought you might be he, with new name to reflect new surroundings.
Obviously not.

A mate of mine (Union chappie) was visiting Parliament to see his MP along with a colleague who, sadly, had that prick Galloway as his MP. Needless to say, Gorgeous George stood up said lad despite the visit being long-standing and highly important. Later that evening on the train home, my mate spotted the MP that he had seen and asked him where if Bawbag was on the train. "Only if it's going to fucking Baghdad" was the response.
And while we're at it, his right-hand man Ron McKay is a fucking weasel.

OK, that's not good. Heard a very similar story re. Tory Blair and some union reps - he bailed out of a meeting with them, and was later seen enjoying lunch in the members dining room (he had said he had to leave town on urgent business).
I've always said that there's a lot about Galloway that I don't like, but the assertion that he is "part of the problem" is way off. He is certainly a "problem" for those in the establishment who would like us to go along with their plans for the Middle East at the moment.
And I bet if as much effort went into bismirching other MP's as goes into GG, a lot of them would come up smelling much worse.

I would never deny that Blair is "busy" with all sorts of things. In the past he and his cronies certainly made themselves busy stealing the Labour Party, for instance. He has also been very busy as cheerleader for Bush.
Yes, Blair has done some good things for Labour and for the people of this country, but in many respects he has been a surprising let down.
As for Galloway - I don't see anything to convince me (in your postings, or elsewhere) that he is "part of the problem" when we talk about the situation in the Middle East and the terrible things that have been happening here lately.

I think the Labour Party was modernised and electable before Blair took the reins- and it was not all down to neo liberals like Mandelson either. The writing was on the wall.
"New Labour" is just a gravy train, a career for grasping middle class yuppies who were uncomfortable with the idea of joining the Conservative Party or with relegating their ambition to the Lib Dems.
Thanks to them, we now have very little in the way of real choice at the ballot box. No ideology to vote for other than "liberal democracy" as offered by the main parties.

When was that ever any different?

I think the old "All politicians are the same" line is pretty lazy, although the need to compromise has made some look like hypocrites even when they are not.
There used to be "Socialists" in the Labour Party, and their World View and actions were rather distinct when compared to the alternatives. Unfortunately, that's not something we can say with any confidence these days.
