is a "Sir" knighted or is that a "Lord"... and when did he receive his "Sir" title?

Queenie gave Dennis an hereditary peerage in 1990. He became Sir Denis Thatcher of Scotney in the County of Kent. When he snuffed it, and as it was hereditary....

Mind you, I've heard rumours that she's now so deep into senile dementia that Dennis' death barely registered with her, so it's quite possible she's forgotten. She might even have forgotten he's her son!
