"To get as much calcium as a glass of milk (300 mg), drink enough soy milk to give you 500 mg of calcium"

See what i mean?? Milk is held as the universal standard, what's going on??

Well, thanks for the info morfe... I'm not sure if I'll ever completely be a vegan or vegetarian though.

Milk comes from cows. Sometimes, if you right market forces are prevailing, you can exchange cows for magic beans!

it is NOT the universal standard, in places like japan they used no milk (and consumption is still lower in spite of american influence) and research has shown they get the calcium from many other sources, like sesame, which has got a heavier concentration of calcium than milk I think.
some cultures are milk and bread based, others have never used these ingredients yet managed to keep their nutritional richness intact. anyone saying you need this and that is just talking from a cultural perspective as there are thousands of different foods and combinations according to the local needs and produce. diet=culture. and as globalisation pushes for a common diet, then people tend to get more and more narrow minded.

in the future, we will end up thinking ketchup is the main source of vitamin C.
