What religious or astronomical use would such a thing be?

Pfffff. Well, I'm no archaeoastronomer, but in conjunction with a viewing point you could track sunrise positions, I suppose. But I'd have thought landscape features would have been better for that type of business. Better to look west at sunsets, you don't have to get up so early. especially as they had no kettles or pg tips.

Religious? blimey. take your pick. but don't dance on the sabbath, I have it on good authority you're fecked if you do. dance to sabbath though, especially the first four albums.

If you can dance to the first Sabbath album, you should definitely be burned as a witch.

I'm so uncool I went round a sabather's house as a surveyor and asked his very posh wife what the gold disks and massive recording studio in the loft were all about. "My husband's a musician".

This arc of stones, they'd point S-East not East I reckon.

BTW I could only do Dad Dancing when I was 15. Very sad.

:)

Why is your imaginary arc of stones pointing SE? Since you can imagine it wherever you like.

Ah philosophy, good. Well I reckon a non-existent South Easterly arc is more likely to pop up in a universe of infinite possibilities than a non-existent Easterly one.

I note your admirable reluctance to expand your hypothesis, at least until publication.

So true. Catchy title, should sell well in academia.
