Me and my youngest walked the perimeter of Old Sarum after visiting Stonehenge one winter Solstice. Was a beautiful day for Dec 21st, everything was bright and sunny, and thick with the rime of Hoar Frost. God that was years ago, she's bloody 17 now. Cripes, where does the time go?

Don't go there it's too depressing. I first went there when I was 16 and living in Southampton...52 years ago! Have been twice since.

Not many (if any) comments being made on the programme which I'm enjoying but just another heads-up as it's Maiden Castle tonight.

There are two very good reasons to watch that program.

Very good fairly short programme. Bettany Hughes doing an excellent job of describing a massive IA fortress or 'Britain's first town in the sky'. I've not yet visited Maiden Castle - didn't realise it had an extension added and was originally circular. Interesting point about bronze, having been a form of currency, had run out - leaving people feeling insecure and in need of a place of safety. Fabulous aerial shots taken by an 'octocopter'.

We talk about the massive undertaking the building of Silbury Hill was, but Maiden Castle with all the sculpturing, banks and ditches must have taken a few lifetimes as well surely.
