There is a review of the book in this months Archaeology Ireland. I haven't got it in front of me but from memory i think it does go into genetics.

Just looking at the amazon link to the contents.

Chapter 8
Skulls, Blood and Genes - 215 - 243

So he must go into a bit. I'm looking forward to it anyhow - Archaeology Ireland give it must read status which I've never seen them give to any book before.

I'm sure he will , but his stance is one of mistrust .
Nothing wrong with that mistrust , as it too easy to make big claims with little support .
Have a look at 4 mins and 39 mins approx

His previous stuff has been excellent .

It turned out an great read with lots of humour . The first page of chapeter 1 typicaly imaginative and funny .
He still maintains a sensible mistrust of the various narratives derived from non ancient DNA e.g. "anlysis of of modern DNA may be an exceedingly crude and in some cases , totally ineffective method for recovering the past genetic history of a population ." As he couldn't escape making some conclusions in a book with a title "Origins of the Irish " , he once again exercised caution by providing two opposing conclusions whilst accepting that one was becoming less likely . Recommended , if only every country could have a Mallory to deal with it's chauvinistic leanings .
