Riverman posted the thread below on UKnow. It's so important that awareness of this appalling policy is kept up. I've posted it here as you never know who may be visiting this site or a new contributor.

Nice one Riverman.

Just read that link, thanks TSC ... guess everyone is a bit preoccupied with the weather/xmas etc at present but perhaps we can all start afresh in the new year. Small 'unsung' things help as well - the Ramblers Association for example continue to campaign to protect Rights of Way and the 'walking environment'. The Conservatives manifesto, part of which was re-printed in Riverman's post, just highlights their self-serving hypocrisy. Cameron is pictured in the lastest edition of the Woodland Trust's magazine saying the same (misleading) words.

Sorry, but I just had to post this. Sometimes help can come from the most unlikely of places:

Good on him!

I decided to post this here rather than next door as I think it does fit the remit, sadly. As one of the many who finds beauty and inspiration in the living heritage of our ancient woodlands, this is deplorable.

Yes. I'm hoping for a miracle, but I think Direct Action may be the only response we've got left.

It's been posted on the Pump as well by Valve.

Three cheers for all those wonderful people who chipped in on our behalf

This greed driven wanton destruction in the name of profit, may end up costing more than keeping our heritage after all. It just beggars belief :

The sheer undemocratic arrogance and Lib Dem collaboration is appaling, considering the huge level of public opposition. At least the woefully weak Labour opposition are actually acting on an issue for a change:

The Tories are arseholes, aren't they? Still. As long as the allotments don't have any megaliths in them, maybe U-Know can deal with 'em! ;)

This is getting too predictable, sorry. Well they may have backed off, for the moment, re. the Forests, but now it seems they're after a smaller prize - our allotments. We've had them and been using them since Saxon times. Very soon, the ability for many people to enjoy growing their own produce, and therefore helping the environment etc, will be gone... IF they get their way.
The Green Tories..... A contradiction in terms is an understatement, and you can't overstate the insulting contempt of this Government.

I love the way that article says:-
selling off allotment land for social housing or even for profit to major companies.

There's nothing 'or even' about it. Major companies run by their mates will be the ones that profit....or is that just the cynic in me coming out!! :D
